Aw man, I'm sorry to hear it. I'll keep yer furry friend in my prayers tonight. Pet troubles suck.
In other news, kudos to your relatives for what they're doing. I was Certified Nursing Associate at an SNF and at hospice, and I say with no shame that I just couldn't hack it. Folks who can, however, have a yard of guts. Hats off to 'em.
Pets bring the highs and lows -- doing better today, despite a pretty grim prognosis from the vets. More to come, certainly.
Regarding crybabiness: I shed copious tears over the loss of what was certainly the meanest pet rabbit that ever chewed through a shelf full of books. I'd say that I don't know why we set ourselves up for this, but I know full well.

Aw, geez. Hope your pup turns around, and that it proves to be no big deal!
I'd echo what Mike said. That's tough work.
When it rains, it pours.
Taking care of one's declining parents is one of life's near-guaranteed cruelties.
The big reason I'm not a dog person. Or a cat person. Not really a pet person. I'm an absolute crybaby about that stuff.
